A Keyes man who was spotted in June reaching for a beer can in a stolen car was sentenced last week to three years in prison, Stanislaus County District Attorney Birgit Fladager announced Wednesday.
A police officer on June 23 saw Joseph Glenn Shaw, 27, leaning into a 1989 red Toyota pickup that had been reported stolen in Turlock earlier in the day.
Shaw reportedly told the officer he was trying to grab his beer can from between the passenger's and driver's seats.
The officer found Shaw's cell phone in the pickup.
Shaw at the time claimed he did not know whose pickup it was or why it was parked in front of a home on East Greenway Drive in Turlock.
Shaw pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle last week before Judge John Freeland, who handed down Shaw's sentence.
