Stanislaus County sheriff’s officials this afternoon arrested one of three suspects wanted in the shooting death of 21-year-old Chaz Bettencourt last week outside a Riverbank am-pm minimarket, a department spokesman said.
Jah-Kari Phyall, 15, of Turlock was found about 2 p.m. in Modesto and was taken into custody without further incident, said deputy Andrew Winter.
There was no further information about his apprehension immediately available.
Detectives were still looking for Daniel Pantoja, 18, of Riverbank, and Turlock Diaz, 14, of Turlock, who are also suspects in the shooting.
Phyall is being held on charges of murder, car jacking and gang-related enhancements. He's being held at Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall.
Sheriff’s officials said Pantoja and Diaz should be considered armed and dangerous.
Bettencourt was shot Aug. 5 outside at the minimarket parking lot after a dispute with three suspects.
Stanislaus County Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the three suspects.
