A teenage boy struck by a car in Modesto's Village I on Wednesday afternoon suffered a broken collarbone and other injuries, but his condition had stabilized, police said Thursday.
The 13-year-old, who was alert and talking, underwent tests Thursday after he was flown the previous evening to an out-of-area hospital to determine if there were any head or internal injuries, said Modesto police spokesman Sgt. Rick Armendariz.
He said the boy suffered abrasions and complained of pain after he was struck by a sport utility vehicle about 3 p.m. at Floyd and Millbrook avenues.
The Dan Savage Middle School student was walking north on Millbrook when he crossed the eastbound lanes of Floyd, stopping at the center island, Armendariz said. Initial reports that the boy was on a bicycle were not accurate. From the center island, the boy stepped into the westbound lanes and was hit by the SUV.
Armendariz said preliminary reports indicate the teenager failed to yield to traffic.
The intersection is about a half-mile northwest of the school.
