Ripon police arrest motorcyclist

Officers at a sobriety checkpoint Saturday night in Ripon arrested a motorcyclist suspected of driving away from pursuing officers two days earlier. Ripon police arrested Charles Anthony Koehn, 27, of Manteca on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia, evading a police officer without regard for public safety and resisting arrest, said Sgt. Steve Merchant. On Thursday, Ripon police officer Scott Lindsay chased a fleeing black Suzuki GSXR-1000 near Highway 99 and Austin Road in Ripon. Merchant said the suspect and a female passenger reached speeds of more than 100 mph. The pursuing officer ended the chase to ensure the public's safety. During Saturday's checkpoint at Jack Tone Road and Santos Avenue, police stopped a black Suzuki GSXR-1000 with expired and suspended registration. Lindsay saw the motorcycle and identified Koehn as the man who escaped capture. When the officers told him patrol cars have video cameras and Lindsay was the officer who chased him, Koehn admitted to police he was the wanted suspect, Merchant said.
