The project to replace Modesto's bus maintenance shop is getting a $3.48 million grant through the Federal Transportation Administration. Rep. Dennis Cardoza, D-Merced, announced the grant award Friday. Since 1996, the city has planned to replace the maintenance facility, housed in a 93-year-old building on Eighth Street. The City Council approved a design concept in 2000, but ran into a snag in 2006 when architects with a $590,000 contract asked for more money to finish their work. The city hopes to complete the $17.6 million facility in fall 2011.
