2 hurt as car hits Modesto bus stop benches

Two people sitting on a bus stop bench Saturday in north Modesto were grazed by a car after the driver lost control while trying to grab hold of her dog inside the vehicle, police said. There were no major injuries reported, but one person was taken by an ambulance to a hospital for treatment, according to Modesto police. The accident occurred on Sylvan Avenue, just east of McHenry Avenue. Police said a woman driving a Dodge Stratus lost control while trying to stop her dog from escaping her grasp. The car destroyed one bench at the bus stop and knocked over a second bench.
