Police identify vehicle in hit-and-run that killed Modestan

Modesto Police have identified the type of vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident in September that killed a popular musician.

Modesto resident Carl L. Robinson III, 55, was riding his bicycle down Scenic Drive at close to 10 p.m. on Sept. 12, when he was struck from behind. Police believe Robinson was following all bike laws like traveling with the flow of traffic, and using front and rear lights.

The driver fled the scene and no arrests were made. However, through debris collected at the scene, police identified the car as a four-door Acura RL, made between 1996 and 1998, Modesto Police Sgt. Rick Armendariz said on Tuesday.

The car will likely have damage to its front right corner but police are asking anyone who may know someone with recent body work done on this type of car to call Crime Stoppers at 521-4636 or to call Sgt. Gary Crawford or Lt. Scott Blom with the Modesto police traffic unit at 572-9500.

Friends and family of Robinson are holding a benefit concert tonight at the State Theatre for the guitarist. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m.

The show is free but all donations will go to Robinson’s family.
