Modesto man stabbed in alley; suspects flee

A 43-year-old Modesto man was stabbed Monday afternoon after talking with a group of men about gang affiliations, authorities said.

Modesto police responded to a call at 3:31 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 2800 block of West Rumble Road, where the victim ran from his assailants, according to Sgt. Rick Armendariz of the Modesto Police Department.

A short time earlier, the man apparently was talking with five or six Latino men in an alley between Whitcomb Way and Garvey Avenue just south of Brenner Way.

The man was stabbed several times. He was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. The suspects fled on foot following the stabbing.

Armendariz said there are no known motives for the stabbing, although it could be gang-related.The incident remains under investigation and the victim was still being interviewed by police early Monday evening.
