The Modesto City Council took the following action Tuesday:
Approved an increase in fire inspection fees for the first time in 17 years.
The Fire Department will charge $109 for annual fire code permits for assembly rooms, restaurants or other occupancies that could pose a hazard.
The fees will be $109 for inspections required for insurance and $111 for firework booths. Inspection charges for apartment buildings will be $55 for 3-20 units, $159 for 21-60 units and $289 for 61 units or more.
The city could receive $101,000 in annual revenue.
The council vote was 6-1, with Kristin Olsen saying the timing was bad in light of the poor economy.
