By 3:30 p.m., the intersection of McHenry and Floyd avenues in north Modesto remained closed to traffic as crews continued repairs from an early morning car accident.
Power was still out, affecting mostly businesses and possibly some homes in the area, according to the Modesto Irrigation District.
MID crews have replaced two downed utility poles and repaired the power lines, but workers discovered a third damaged utility pole, said Kate Hora, an MID spokeswoman.
The third damaged pole was snapped at the base and needs to be replaced, she said. The crash also caused damaged to an underground utility trench, where power, telephone and cable lines are.
Hora said MID crews estimated to be done with their repairs by 8 or 9 p.m., which was when power is expected to be restored.
A single vehicle accident early this morning shut down a McHenry Avenue intersection and parts of two others.
At about 4:15 a.m. a driver for unknown reasons crashed into an electrical pole at the intersection of McHenry and Floyd avenues, according to Modesto police spokesman Sgt. Rick Armendariz.
The impact of the car severed the pole, knocking it and another pole down, and leaving live electric wires strewn across the intersection.
Caltrans and the Modesto Irrigation District were called to the intersection, which has since been blocked off from traffic. Southbound lanes on McHenry from Leveland Lane and northbound lanes on McHenry from Bowen Avenue also are closed.
MID spokesperson Kate Hora said power has been shut off to businesses in the area including Wells Fargo and City Cell Wireless. She said the power poles and power lines have to be reset, which she estimates will be finished by about 2 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle suffered only minor injuries and was not taken to a hospital or arrested, according to Armendariz.
