New pet food factory, jobs coming to Ripon

A former paper plant in Ripon will be turned into a pet food factory, company officials said this afternoon.

Diamond Pet Food Products paid $9 million for the plant, idle since Neenah Paper Inc. closed it in July 2009.

Diamond will employ about 100 workers when the new factory is up and running in about a year, manufacturing vice president Mark Schell said this afternoon.

The company’s Lathrop plant, about the same size, is one of three owned by Diamond in the United States and will continue operating.
