A 20-year-old San Diego County woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash reported Sunday evening on eastbound Highway 152 near the San Luis Reservoir.
The name of the woman, a resident of El Cajon, hasn’t been released. Three children and one adult suffered major and moderate injuries.
The crash happened about five miles east of the Merced County/Santa Clara County border shortly after 6 p.m. The woman was driving a 2008 Honda westbound on Highway 152. Meanwhile, 35-year-old Pavel Rodriguez of Salinas was driving with three children, ages five to nine, in a 2007 Honda in the highway’s eastbound lane, according to Officer Jesse Lopez, CHP spokesman.
For unknown reasons, the woman allowed her car to enter the center divider. She turned to the right and over-corrected to the left, causing her to lose control of the car. She crossed the center divider and was struck on the passenger side by the Rodriguez’s car.
The woman’s Honda overturned and came to a rest on its roof. The second car came to a rest on its wheels in the shoulder roadway edge of eastbound Highway 152.
Paramedics declared the woman dead at the scene. She’d been driving alone.
Rodriguez and two 5-year-old boys in his car suffered major injuries. A 9-year-old girl in the Rodriguez's car suffered moderate injuries. All were flown to regional hospitals.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. There’s no indication DUI was involved in the crash.
