Modesto police seized 650 marijuana plants and six pounds of its processed buds from a home in West Modesto Monday afternoon.
Working off a tip from a neighbor, police searched a home in the 800 block of Rosemore Avenue and found the plants, along with a loaded assault rifle and one female suspect, according to Modesto police spokesman Sgt. Rick Armendariz.
The woman, 29, was apprehended for questioning and will likely face charges, Armendariz said.
The indoor grow operation was being supplied by power stolen from the Modesto Irrigation District. The utility company estimates the grower had been tapping into the power with extension cords for at least four 90-day grow cycles - stealing more than $14,000 in energy.
The plants took up two bedrooms and varied in development from fresh cuttings to 5-foot tall budding plants.
Police are still trying to determine a total estimated street value for the product, but Armendariz said the six pounds of processed marijuana could sell for an average of $3,400 a pound.
