Modesto police investigating four robberies since Tuesday night

Modesto police are investigating four unrelated robberies that took place Tuesday night and early this morning.

The first occurred around 6 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Timothy and Granger avenues, according to Modesto police spokesman Sgt. Rick Armendariz.

A 66-year-old man was walking in the area when a 21-yer-old man approached him from behind and took his wallet. The victim and witnesses described the man to police, who found the suspect a block away on Timothy, Armendariz said.

The suspect was identified as Donald Miller, of Modesto. He was arrested on suspicion of robbery and parole violation.

Just before midnight Tuesday, a man was robbed of his wallet and cell phone at a park in North Modesto.

The victim and a female friend were in the park at 4100 Highlights Way when two Latino males in their late teens or early 20s approached them and asked the victim if they could use his cell phone.

The suspects then assaulted the man and took his cell phone and wallet. The Latino suspects were described as approximately 6 feet tall, wearing dark clothes and hooded sweatshirts, Armendariz said.

Another man was robbed of his cell phone at 1 a.m. in the Wal-Mart parking lot on McHenry Avenue. He was standing in front of the White Hawk Lounge when he was approached by a white male adult in his early 30s, wearing a white sweatshirt. The suspect assaulted the victim and took his cell phone, Armendariz said.

The suspect, who was with a white female adult, was described as 5-foot-6, 180 pounds and wearing dark clothes. The two fled the scene in a blue van, Armendariz said.

A half hour later, police were dispatched to the a reported robbery at the AM/PM in the 1200 block of North Carpenter Road.

Armendariz said a suspect armed with a handgun walked into the convenience store demanding money. He fled on foot toward Woodland Avenue with an undisclosed amount of cash, Armendariz said.

No one was injured during the robbery.

The suspect is described as about 5-foot7, weighing approximately 150 pounds. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.
