A committee announced Thursday that it recommends Stephanie Burnside to fill the District 5 vacancy on the Modesto City Council.
Council members Joe Muratore, Dave Lopez and Brad Hawn made the choice after a final 50-minute interview with Burnside and a second finalist, Branden Mello. Their decision completed a six-week process of evaluating the 13 people who applied for the appointment.
The City Council, currently with six members, will vote Tuesday on whether to appoint Burnside, a co-owner of an auto body shop. The appointee will serve one year of Kristin Olsen’s unexpired term. Olsen resigned this week to prepare for her new job as the state’s 25th District assemblywoman.
“I am sincerely grateful for this opportunity and look forward to working with everybody,” Burnside said.
