Detective identifies Modesto woman as victim of 'suspicious death'

Stanislaus County detectives are investigating what is being termed as a “suspicious death” on Sunday afternoon in a home on Kerr Avenue, authorities said.

Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies were called to the home by a resident there who found the body Donna Johnson, 59, of Modesto, according to Detective Darwin Hatfield of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department.

Lt. Charles Grom said it didn’t appear that there were any signs of foul play, but because of the lack of information surrounding Johnson's death, investigators are looking into it.

Grom said Johnson either was a friend of the resident’s or somebody the resident had just met. The resident had left the home for a few hours, and when he returned, discovered the body.

Grom said authorities are not necessarily looking at the case as a homicide.

An autopsy was planned for this morning, and investigators are looking forward to toxicology results to determine the cause of death.
