'American Idol' winner to play Christmas show in Modesto

Lee DeWyze, this year’s “American Idol” winner, has been added to the lineup of B92.9 FM’s Dec. 2 Acoustic Christmas show at Modesto Centre Plaza.

DeWyze, 24, is touring to promote his first post-“Idol” album, “Live It Up,” which is due for release Nov. 16. Tammy Cruise, morning show co-host on the radio station, said she’s glad the singer can participate.

“It was really difficult for us to get him because he’s supposed to be in Orlando the next day, so he had to change his travel plans," she said. "We thought it would be good for the show.”

DeWyze, a former Illinois paint store clerk, overcame his shyness and prevailed over soulful Crystal Bowersox in the singing contest’s ninth season, which concluded in late May.

Also performing at the Acoustic Christmas show is Barenaked Ladies singer Steven Page, Blue October’s Justin Furstendfeld and Ryan Star.
