Hundreds gathered along Needham Street on Thursday for Modesto’s annual Veterans Day parade.
The procession included veterans of all ages and honored those who have served since the Civil War.
Young children saluted soldiers and attendees shouted words of encouragement and appreciation as the Veterans passed them.
It was one of two Veterans Day events in Modesto. The other was this afternoon's "Fall In for Veterans Day" tribute at the Gallo Center for the Arts.
“I’m seeing a lot more thanks now,” Vietnam vet Richard Shervington said while watching the parade. “When I came back from Vietnam and when other Vietnam vets came back, nobody got any thanks at all.
"They turned their backs on us really. And I’m glad to see that the veterans nowadays are getting their recognition.” The parade started on O Street traveled up Needham and wrapped around Graceada Park.
