Two years for Ceres man after wreck, evading police

Frank Phillip Marcrum, 20, of Ceres was sentenced to two years in state prison after being convicted of auto theft, driving under the influence and resisting arrest.

At midnight Nov. 2 in Modesto, an officer saw Marcrum driving a red 1991 Nissan pickup. When Marcrum saw the officer, he accelerated away while making a turn, hitting two parked cars before he jumped out of the truck and ran.

Dispatch then notified the officer that the vehicle had been reported stolen Oct. 30 from the owner's driveway in Modesto. The officer used his police canine, Barry, to apprehend Marcrum, who was hiding in a neighbor's back yard.

When the officer discovered Marcrum was under the influence of methamphetamine, Marcrum admitted to smoking "a lot" of it earlier that evening.
