Fight outside downtown Modesto bar leaves man with serious head injuries

A 37-year-old man was seriously injured early Friday during a fight after walking out of a downtown Modesto nightclub, police said.

The man suffered a severe head injury and was taken by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center, said Modesto police Sgt. Rick Armendariz.

Police did not release the man's name to ensure his safety. No one else involved in the fight was seriously injured.

The Modesto man and two friends left the Copper Rhino nightclub shortly after 2 a.m., Armendariz said.

About a block away, the trio of friends was approached by a group of men near the corner of 11th and J streets. Armendariz said an argument ensued between the two groups and escalated into the fight. When it was over, man was hit in the head and became unconscious, Armendariz said.

On Friday afternoon, police had made no arrests in the investigation.
