Stanislaus County coroner officials today identified the 85-year-old woman who died early Monday when a fire destroyed the west Modesto home she was living in.
Officials used medical information to positively identify Muriel Lloyd. Her body was recovered from the burned single-story house in the 1100 block of Hilltop Lane, an unincorporated area just south of Paradise Road and a few blocks west of South Carpenter Road.
Fire investigators said another resident at the home told Lloyd to get out of the burning house. She was looking for her dog and made it as far as the kitchen, but she did not re-emerge.
Fire officials later found the dog dead in one of the bedrooms.
Investigators had not determined what caused the fire, which started in the garage area and later spread to the rest of the home.
Evidence was collected at the home for analysis, but investigators said there was no indication a crime had been committed.
