Modesto Bee starts 'Teen Life' contest for teenage photographers

Calling all teen photographers!

The Bee encourages teenagers in our readership area to enter our "Teen Life" photo contest.

The rules are simple: Over the next six weeks, shoot as many photos as you'd like and pick up to five of your favorites to enter in our contest.

What to shoot? Images that represent your life.

So shoot at school, around the house, or wherever you go. Take pictures of friends and family, your pets, the stuff and places you like.

You may use any camera, digital or film or cell phone, but all images must be submitted digitally through our Web site at

You may crop your images and make standard adjustments for color correction, toning and sharpness in photo-editing software. But you may not substantially alter the integrity of the image. (If your friend has braces, don't PhotoShop them out!)

Pictures may be in color or black and white.

Who is eligible to enter? Anyone ages 13 to 19, during any portion of the contest, which begins today and runs through April 15.

The public will be invited to vote on the photos, and a panel of judges will choose the winning entries, some of which will be published in The Bee and on

The top prize will be a free photo workshop in San Francisco from the Digital Photo Academy,
