DUI suspected in Crows Landing crash that injures 2-year-old

A 2-year-old Oakland boy not strapped into a car seat suffered moderate head injuries when the car in which he was riding went into a ditch near Crows Landing on Sunday night, authorities said.

The driver, Roy Ramsey, 33, of Oakland was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, according to Eric Parsons, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.

Ramsey and two women who were passengers suffered minor injuries.

The boy was flown to Children’s Hospital in Oakland. His condition is not known.

Parsons said Ramsey was driving a rented 2011 Toyota Venza south on Interstate 5 when he left the freeway at Fink Road, understimated his speed and went through the stop sign at the end of the ramp and into a ditch.

The boy was in the back seat, restrained only by a seat belt, Division Chief Jeff Gregory of the Patterson Fire Department said.Parsons said an unused child car seat was in the vehicle.
