Oakdale's City Hall and its Development Services Building will be closed to the public for two hours in the morning. The City Council this week approved a plan to close the two buildings from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday through Thursday. The two buildings will remain open to the public starting at 8 a.m. Fridays. The new hours start April 18. City staff still will be on the job, but the closures will let them catch up on their work instead of helping residents with city business such as paying a utility bill or applying for a business license. The city has lost a fifth of its workers in 2½ years, but the workload has increased, officials say. City Hall also will remain open an extra hour, until 6 p.m., on the second Wednesday of the month for residents who need to pay past-due utility bills to avoid having their water turned off.
