Oakdale boy, 12, dies after bicycle accident

Police today are investigating the death of a 12-year-old boy who died from injuries suffered in a bicycle accident late Wednesday.

The accident occurred about 9:30 p.m. near Hinkley Avenue and West G Street, just west of Oakdale High School.

Stanislaus County coroner officials identified the boy today as Raul Arellano.

Police Sgt. Michael Eggener said that Arellano crashed his bicycle. It did not appear that any other bicycles or vehicles were involved.

Eggener said the boy went home and about 11:30 p.m. and complained to his mother about upper abdominal and lower chest pain. His parents took him to the emergency room at Oak Valley Hospital.

Eggener said the boy died there of complications from his injuries.

Hospital officials notified police of the boy’s death and his accident early Thursday.

The family could not be reached for comment this afternoon.
