The dense fog in Merced might have let up on Monday afternoon, but meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Hanford say the chance of rain is likely toward the end of the week, which could create more fog.
This is a “typical winter time pattern for this area that we haven’t seen in a few years because of the dry weather,” said Jim Bagnall, meteorologist at the weather service in Hanford.
Once Merced gets a “little bit of rain,” like the showers that came about a week ago, high preassure systems build up, trap all the moisture in and “creates fog that lasts for quite a while,” according to Bagnall.
On Tuesday morning there will be a slight chance of rain, Bagnall said, and on Thursday and Friday another storm is expected to come through Merced that will bring “good chances” of rain.
“Between these two (storms) we might get a little more fog on Wednesday morning,” he said, although they can’t pin point how dense the fog will be.
“When there is that fog just be alert,” Bagnall said. “Conditions can change rapidly when driving.”
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday temperatures will be in the low 60s, Bagnall said. Friday and Saturday temperatures will be in the mid 50s.
