Bob Calaway: Police union should tell us why the lost confidence in chief

I am disappointed in the Atwater police union. I wonder if the union president or any officers who signed the “no confidence letter” ever talked with the chief or submitted a written memo to explain their feelings or complaints prior to being led like sheep and voting for a no-confidence letter? They should not forget the work that went into the passage of Measure H. The past city manager gave Chief Sam Joseph an excellent work performance rating.

Without Measure H funding five to seven officers would lose their jobs. I would like the citizens of Atwater to get behind this issue, demanding an open airing before the council about why the lack of confidence letter was filed. Let the officers speak in public about their complaints and have the chief respond. This is transparency and the democratic way.

Bob Calaway, Atwater
