Melvin Ladousier: Sheriff Warnke did the right thing in seizing weapons
Re “Le Grand student arrested after threat” (Front Page, March 5): Praise to Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke for his wisdom, which thus far has been greater than that of the FBI and many other law-enforcement agencies. Warnke was made aware of a threat made by a kid against a county school and acted immediately to neutralize the threat. He had the student arrested and held and had all firearms removed from the student’s home pending completion of the investigation.
The nation should take note that this is the way to prevent slaughter. Enforce the laws on the books, taking every threat seriously and taking immediate action to neutralize the threat. I am an ardent supporter of Second Amendment rights, but believe removal of firearms from this home to prevent this family member from gaining access to firearms was essential. Where we go from this point should be carefully determined by law enforcement, psychiatrists and the courts. Kudos to Sheriff Warnke and his department.
Melvin Ladousier, Merced
