Exactly 37 area high school teachers are taking a golden handshake retirement offer this year, meaning the Merced Union High School District will have to find at least that many instructors to fill those spots. “This is where we start, this is where recruitment begins,” said Raynee Daley, the district’s assistant superintendent of human resources.
The district board approved the teachers’ retirement requests at its meeting Wednesday night - 13 from Merced High School, 12 from Atwater High, six from Golden Valley, two from Livingston and Buhach Colony highs and one from East Campus.
