Five children arrested after admitting to school graffiti

Five children were arrested Tuesday after police received complaints about graffiti at local schools.

Police arrested two 9-year-old boys, an 11-year-old girl, a 12-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy after they admitted to causing more than $2,000 in damage to Gracey and Alicia Reyes schools.

According to police, Officer Danny Richardson was contacted by the 12-year-old’s parent, who suspected their son was responsible for graffiti on the Alicia Reyes campus. The boy admitted tagging the school grounds, police said. He also admitted to graffiti at Gracey School and an apartment complex on Mimi Lane. During his questioning, police learned about the involvement of the other children.

The two 9-year-old boys are students at Reyes and admitted to helping cause the graffiti, as did the 11-year-old girl, a student at Hoover Middle School.A 15-year-old Golden Valley High School student was also arrested for damages to the campus.

All five youths were arrested and released to either the school or directly to their parents. Reports detailing the damage will be submitted to the Juvenile Probation Department for review, police said.
