An unregistered sex offender was arrested after a routine traffic stop on Wednesday.
Eurico Dasilva, 38, was the passenger in a car that was pulled over by Merced County Sheriff's deputies at the intersection of Glenn Ave. and 19th Street.
Dasilva is a convicted felony sex offender and has not registered with law enforcement since January 2005, according a press release issued Thursday by the sheriff's department. Convicted sex offenders are required by law to register with the law enforcement agencies in their cities of residence.
During the traffic stop, a container fell from the car, the press release said. Deputies discovered 14 packages of methamphetamine with dollar amounts from $20 to $80 written on each package. The container also held a small amount of hash, a concentrated form of marijuana. Dasilva was booked into Merced County Jail.
