Two men were arrested on drug charges after a short chase with Merced County Sheriff's deputies.
Victor Ortiz, 22, and Anthony Rodriguez, 23, both of Merced, led deputies on a foot chase through South Merced after the vehicle they were driving was stopped near the 1100 block of 4th Street for not having a front license plate. The driver, Ortiz, got out of the car, threw an ounce of methamphetamine into the street and began running, according to a Sheriff's Department press release.
Detectives Kevin Blake and Johnny Mathis chased Ortiz for three to four blocks to an apartment complex near Childs Avenue. Mathis then shot Ortiz with a Taser.
Ortiz and Rodriguez were arrested and booked into Merced County Jail. Both were booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine intended for sale, resisting arrest and gang enhancements.
