Poor leadership and a lack of attention to detail at the Merced County Elections Department are putting the county at risk for major election problems — including voter fraud and disenfranchisement, according to an audit of the department.
The Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to accept the audit, which was conducted by elections consultant Stephen Trout at the county’s request.
