A Merced man accused two years ago of sexually assaulting and beating his 6-month-old daughter has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Joshua Harper, now 21, was arrested in April 2006 after the baby’s mother reported the abuse.
On Monday, Harper pleaded guilty to assault and domestic violence charges, agreeing to serve eight years in state prison.
The baby’s maternal grandparents now have custody of her. Her grandfather, Charles Bates, said the baby is doing well and that his family is relieved to have the case closed.
