Search results in arrest of parolee wanted for failing to register as sex offender

A parolee wanted for failing to register as a sex offender was arrested Tuesday night after a search by law enforcement officers.

Jose Serna was arrested shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday after officers received an anonymous tip that he was at an apartment complex at 11th and M streets in Merced. Officers conducted several unsuccessful searches at locations throughout Merced earlier in the day.

Sheriff's detectives Dustin Witt and Jason Jacklitsch found Serna sitting on the steps of an abandoned two-story house, where he was arrested and booked into Merced County Jail. The search team was made up of members of the Merced Sheriff's Tactical and Reconnaissance Team, US Marshall's Office, California Department of Corrections, and the State's Felony Apprehension Team.
