Sullivan Omar Gayden, 28, of Hayward was turned over to San Mateo police on a warrant charging him with attempted murder, Merced police Cmdr. Floyd Higdon said.
Higdon said that shortly after the shooting, in which the victim was wounded more than once, San Mateo police identified Gayden as the suspect and learned that he might have fled to Merced.
A search warrant was obtained for a home on the 1300 block of West Third Street. That location was surrounded today about 9 a.m. by Merced police, including the SWAT Team, and San Mateo detectives, Higdon said.
