Victim of Thursday's fatal highway wreck identified

A man killed in an accident near Highway 140 and Dell Street has been identified as 29-year-old Salvador Granados-Oseguera, according to the Merced Police Department.

Granados-Oseguera is believed to be a resident of Merced County, but the coroner’s office hasn’t determined which city, police said. The accident occurred at 4:14 p.m. Thursday when Granados-Oseguera’s 1993 black Acura Integra collided head-on with a 1995 blue Ford F-150 pickup truck. Witnesses say Grandados-Oseguera swerved off the road to avoid cars waiting to turn left in the eastbound lane. After the car exited the roadway, it swerved back left and into the truck.

The driver of the truck is a 58-year-old man who was flown to a Modesto hospital for treatment. The truck driver’s name hasn’t been released, but is in stable condition at an intensive care unit, Cmdr. Floyd Higdon said Friday.

Granados-Oseguera was the only occupant of the Acura. A yellow Labrador retriever was also in the truck and suffered only a small scratch above his eye.
