Six cows were killed Tuesday morning when a cattle trailer lost control and overturned.
The truck was traveling eastbound on Looney Road near Ballico at approximately 40 miles an hour, when it drifted onto the right shoulder of the road. The driver, Don Cardey, 67, of Turlock, lost control of the vehicle as he attempted to re-enter the eastbound lane. The truck veered across the road, overturning onto its left side in a ditch. Cardey was not injured.
To top of the trailer was ripped open during the accident, allowing cows to escape. Three cows died during the collision and three had to be euthanized by the owner because of injuries.
