A pedestrian walking across Highway 152 in Merced County was struck and killed early Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol reported.
A motorist reported the person walking in the middle of the highway about 3:20 a.m., west of Interstate 5 near the Romero Visitors Center.
It was not known why the person was on the highway, but an abandoned vehicle was found nearby that may have been involved in an earlier crash.
The name of the pedestrian was not immediately released.
