Today the Sun-Star unveils a two-section newspaper. This will be our format Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of each week. The other days of the week will remain the same, except that the Saturday newspaper will go to six sections from eight.
Many reasons motivated us to make this move. One, of course, is cost. We can save money on newsprint. More importantly, the new format lets us focus even more on what we do best: cover local news. That is and will remain our franchise for you, our audience. We have been and will be the sole source for reliable and thorough local news. Another reason for our new format is our increased online presence. Our Web site has enjoyed a record numbers of visitors in recent months, and more of the information you need and want will be channeled to www.mercedsunstar.com.
Finally, our Sports section is returning to a standard page size from its tabloid format; we’ve listened to you, our readers, and a lot of you wanted us to return to a traditional section. These changes in our presentation don’t mean any drop-off in what we’ll continue to give you: the best, fastest and most useful local information that you need in your daily lives. Come along for the ride. We think you’ll like it.
