Colorful clues cover young graffiti suspect in Merced

The evidence was all over a young graffiti suspect arrested along a bicycle path by Merced police.

Police said the 15-year-old boy was "covered with multiple colors of paint on his hands and clothing” when he was arrested about 7:30 a.m. Thursday in the Fahrens Park area of Merced.

Police commander Floyd Higdon said graffiti officer Allen Adrian questioned the youth, whose name is being withheld because of his age. As the officer talked to him, additional reports about graffiti came over Adrian's radio. Adrian said the boy admitted knowing about them, then drew his “tag” sign for the officer.

Adrian drove the boy to three sites of graffiti vandalism that the teenager said were his work: Big Bubba’s Barbecue on West 18th Street, Direct Print Production on West Main Street and a vehicle at Eclipse Furniture on Canal Street.

Police took the teenager to Merced County Juvenile Hall. They said the youth had a partner. Anyone with information can call Adrian at (209) 385-4731.
