Merced Police still seeking two in January attempted kidnapping

Merced Police are still looking for two men involved in a January robbery and attempted kidnapping.

On Jan. 20, three men approached the victim outside an apartment complex at the 1200 block of West First Street.

At gunpoint, the men took the victim's wallet and car keys before trying to shove the victim into the trunk of his own car. When the victim ran to his apartment for safety, the men shot through the front door.

One of the robbers has been charged in the case.

Jose Guadalupe Molina was arraigned earlier this month in Merced County Superior Court for robbery and attempted kidnapping. Molina is being held on $200,000 bail for the robbery and kidnapping charges. An additional bail amount of $50,000 was added for a violation of probation.

A hearing has been scheduled for March 26.

Molina was arrested because the victim recognized him from a prior encounter.

The identities of the other two subjects are not known at this time and an investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information on this crime should contact Detective John Fister at (209) 385-4755, or the Merced Police Department tip line at (209) 385-4725.
