There is a 50% chance of thunderstorms in the Central San Joaquin Valley by noon, the National Weather Service reports.
The late spring precipitation is coming from an approaching storm system off the California coast and showers are likely by this evening the weather service says. Moderate to locally heavy snowfall is also predicted for higher elevations in the Sierra Nevada, prompting a winter weather advisory in the Sierra Nevada. Along with the moisture, expect some gusty winds. Expect the chance of wet weather through Friday.
