Thunderstorms are being forecast this evening for the foothills and mountain areas of the Sierra. Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for eastern Mariposa and Tuolumne counties.
The storms could drift as far as the east side of the Valley. The chance of rain in the Valley today and tonight is 20%.
Only a few locations - Eastman Lake, Hensley Lake, Kaweah Lake, Wishon Dam, and Big Meadow - were reporting light rain after 3 p.m. today.
The thunderstorms could produce heavy rains or gusty winds, said James Brotherton, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Hanford.
