A gang sweep prompted by a double homicide in Winton on May 26 resulted in four arrests during a 12-hour period on Thursday, including one man who may be connected to the murders, according to the Merced County Sheriff's Department. The sheriff’s department, with help from other local police agencies, arrested Maximilliano Navarro, 30, of Winton, who investigators believe is a suspect in the shooting that left two men dead at a home on Peridot Street. Navarro was charged with murder and is not eligible for bail, the sheriff's department said.
The shooting victims, 21-year-old Andres Rodriguez and 18-year-old Abraham Valenzuela, both of Winton, were shot outside a house in the 7000 block of Peridot Avenue around 9:30 p.m. on May 26. Investigators believe the shooting was a response to another shooting that occurred in Atwater a few weeks before.
During the 12-hour sweep, the agencies also arrested: Edgar Duran, 19, of Winton, on robbery charges; Ipolita Ibarra, 43, of Winton, for sales of narcotics; and Jessica Cisneros, 18, of Winton, for violation of her parole and possession of a sawed-off shotgun.
All suspects are either gang members or affiliated with a gang, the sheriff's department said. The sheriff's department is seeking additional suspects in last week's shooting.
Sheriff's investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Detective Corey Gibson at (209) 385-7472, ext. 4994. Callers can remain anonymous.
