The weekend forecast for the Merced area calls for temperatures above 100 degrees, both AccuWeather and the National Weather Service report.
AccuWeather, which provides data collection and forecasts for the Sun-Star's online weather page, is now calling for a high of 103 degrees on Saturday and 105 on Sunday.
The National Weather Service is forecasting highs of 104 both days.
Today and Friday, AccuWeather expects a high of 96 degrees, while the Weather Service expects it to reach 93 today and 95 on Friday.
Merced City spokesman Mike Conway said the city doesn’t have plans to open any cooling centers over the weekend.
“One day of 105 temperatures doesn't meet the criteria to open any cooling centers,” he said. The city usually waits until a heat wave lasts at least three days, he said.
