Merced woman identified as victim in Modesto double-homicide

Authorities today released the name of a Merced woman who died in a Monday shooting at a west Modesto home.

The Stanislaus County coroner worked for three days to confirm the identity of Gao Sheng Her, 23, before they released her name to the public.

Her and Nhia Yang, 27, of Modesto, were shot and killed at the home in the 1700 block of Radley Place, said Modesto police spokesman Sgt. Brian Findlen.

A third victim in Monday's shooting, a 21-year-old Modesto man, remained hospitalized Wednesday. Findlen said the man was listed in serious condition with nonlife-threatening injuries. Police did not release his name to ensure his safety.

The shooting occurred about 5:20 a.m. on Radley, a few blocks south of Rouse Avenue and west of Paradise Road.

Shortly after shots rang out, police arrested Tou Vang Xiong, 25, of Atwater on Monday on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and using a firearm to commit a homicide. He was being held Wednesday afternoon at Stanislaus County Jail without bail.

Police would not discuss possible motives, the relationship between Xiong and the victims or say how — or if — the victims were related. Detectives said they do not believe the attack was random.
