Missing Stevinson couple returns home

The missing couple has returned home safely, according to the Merced County Sheriff's Department. They had car trouble and had to have their vehicle towed to a mechanic in Modesto. They were forced to spend the night and did not have any of their children's phone numbers with them or have a cell phone, the sheriff's department said.

Earlier: The Merced County Sheriff's Department is seeking help to find a couple missing from their home in Stevinson since Sunday.

Larry and Phyllis Nelson left their home Sunday at noon to go to their daughter's house in Riverbank, but they never showed up, the sheriff's department said. Family members, friends and neighbors have not heard from the couple since Sunday.

Anyone with information may contact the sheriff’s office at (209) 385-7445. They were driving a white Ford Taurus with the California license plate 3HHJ088.

Both are under the care of a physician and need medical attention. Larry Nelson, 66, is 5-foot-7 and weighs 175 pounds. He has gray hair and blue eyes and is a diabetic. Phyllis Nelson, 66, is 5-foot-2 and weighs 80 pounds. She has red hair and blue eyes and is on pain management for arthritis and has difficulty moving.
