A man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of DUI for the third time in three months, Merced Police said.
Alonzo Clarence Smith, 40, was arrested Saturday night after he was pulled over near West Main and U streets by officer Nick DeJong for a vehicle code violation. Smith had a blood alcohol content level between .14 and .16, nearly twice the legal limit for driving.
Smith was booked into Merced County Jail.
The Merced Police Department plans to continue the increased DUI enforcement until the end of September. The extra patrols, funded through the California Office of Traffic Safety, are part of a joint effort with police departments in Atwater, Livingston and at UC Merced.
