Dedication for Applegate Park Zoo's 'Ed-Zoo-Cation Center' this weekend

A dedication ceremony for the Rossotti Ed-Zoo-Cation Center at Applegate Park will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

The center is a 1,899-square-foot building that can be used for zoo camps, nature and wildlife classes, workshops and meetings. It was named after longtime Merced resident Aleta M. Rossotti, who donated $179,426 to the zoo. Rossotti was a teacher who later worked for the federal government for 31 years. After her retirement in 1976, she went back to school and became the oldest graduate of the Cal State Stanislaus nursing program. She worked as a hospice nurse and later as a school nurse for the Ballico-Cressey School District. She died in 2004 at the age of 89.

The Ed-Zoo-Cation Center is located at 1045 W. 25th St. between Applegate Zoo and Kiddieland.
